New Agent Named for Downtown Kansas City License Office
JEFFERSON CITY - The Missouri Department of Revenue announced today that the Downtown Council of Kansas City is the tentative agent to operate the downtown Kansas City contract license office. The office is planned to open by the end of August.
“I am excited to announce the Downtown Council as Kansas City’s new contract agent,” said department director Trish Vincent. “I know the delay in reopening the downtown office has been a major inconvenience to Kansas City residents and I apologize for that. My number one priority is to provide excellent customer service, and I know the Downtown Council shares that priority. There’s no other individual or group that is better suited to serving the residents of Kansas City in this way,” said Vincent.
The Downtown Council’s mission is to create a downtown community that is recognized as the premier location to live, work, and play. "The downtown motor vehicle and driver license office provides a vital service to the citizens of Kansas City," said Bill Dietrich, President and CEO of the Downtown Council. "This is a civic responsibility that we are pleased to undertake."
As part of a new process recommended by Gov. Matt Blunt, agents are required to submit a business plan demonstrating their commitment to meeting the needs of Missouri citizens. This “Contract Agent’s Plan for Success” outlines details from financial responsibilities to office operations. The Plan for Success also formalizes each agent’s vision for carrying out the technical responsibilities of the contract.
The contract requires agents to hold Saturday office hours, establishes penalties and financial responsibility for errors, sets notary law as a standard of operation, and requires agents to submit all deposits and reports each day to the department.
Contract offices serve Missourians by conducting department business for a per transaction fee as defined by state law. The appointment will not be final until a completed contract is in place. Office location, hours of operation, and the scheduled opening date will be published when the contract is finalized.
