New On-line Filing Form for Military

JEFFERSON CITY – Acting Director of Revenue Julie A. Allen, CPA, PMP, announced today a new initiative that will make it easier for military personnel to remain in compliance with Missouri tax laws.

Soon, military personnel stationed in Missouri will be able to electronically notify the department when a Missouri individual income tax return is not required.  The Service Members Civil Relief Act prevents military personnel from being taxed on military income by any state other than their home of record state.  This new on-line form is an easy way for military members and their families to notify the department when a Missouri individual income tax return is not required for a particular tax year.

“The department continues to look for opportunities to help our men and women in the armed forces,” said Allen.  “We are excited about offering them the ability to find or file this information on the web.”

This convenient on-line form will be available in January 2008 and can be found on the department’s web page at http://dor.mo.gov/tax/personal/military/index.htm.  This on-line form can be used for tax years 2007 and forward.
