New Law Requires Property Tax Receipt to Renew Boat Registration
JEFFERSON CITY –With a law now requiring boat registration renewals to be accompanied by a paid personal property tax receipt, the Missouri Department of Revenue today mailed a newly designed renewal notice to boat owners whose boat registrations are due to expire June 30, 2007. Renewal applicants must submit a 2006 paid personal property tax receipt when renewing their boat registration this year.
Senate Bill 778, which became effective August 28, 2006, requires proof of paid personal property taxes when applying for title and registration or renewing a boat/vessel registration. Missouri residents should submit a personal property tax receipt from their county of residence. If the vessel is a houseboat or cabin cruiser, the tax receipt should be from the county where the boat or vessel is located. Non-Missouri residents who keep a boat in Missouri must submit a paid tax receipt from the county in which the boat is located.
Senate Bill 778 also increased the registration fees for all boats/vessels. The following chart shows the new registration fee based on boat length effective August 28, 2006, and the fee in place prior to August 28, 2006.
Length of Vessel/Boat | Fee Prior to 8/28/06 (not including $3.50 processing fee) | Fee Effective 8/28/06 (not including $3.50 processing fee) |
Under 16 feet | $10 | $25 |
16 feet up to less than 26 feet | $20 | $55 |
26 feet up to less than 40 feet | $30 | $100 |
40 feet and over | $40 | $150 |
