Revenue Department Continues Record-Breaking Tax Season Pace

JEFFERSON CITY – After sending out its one-millionth refund on March 14 and issuing a record $218 million in February refunds, the Missouri Department of Revenue is still processing and issuing refunds just as fast as last year.

As of March 23, the department has issued 1.2 million individual income tax refunds, averaging a processing time of just 2.85 days.

“As they do every year, the department’s tax employees and temporary staff are doing an exceptional job meeting the challenges this tax season,” said Revenue Director Trish Vincent. “We are outpacing the number of tax returns at this time last year and are still averaging less than a 3-day turnaround to issue refunds.”

Taxpayers have lent a hand in helping create the fast turnaround time. In comparison to last year, over 75,000 more returns have been filed electronically in 2007. That means 69.9 percent of returns this year have been filed electronically, versus 66.5 percent at this time last year.

Taxpayers are encouraged to file electronically and check the status of their return online at www.dor.mo.gov. To use the online system, just click “Where’s My Tax Return?” on the right side of the page. The department’s Interactive Voice Response system, unveiled last year, also gives taxpayers the option of using the phone by calling (866) 433-7259 toll-free or by making a toll call to (573) 526-TAXX (8299).
