February Marked Highest Refund Month Ever

Average turnaround time for refund is less than three days

JEFFERSON CITY – With an incredible 99.95 percent of error-free individual income tax refunds processed in 4 days or less, the Missouri Department of Revenue issued the highest refund amount ever for one month. During February, the department refunded over $218 million to Missouri taxpayers. This week, the department sent out its one-millionth refund.

“For the third year, Governor Matt Blunt has challenged the department to efficiently return hard-earned tax dollars back to hard-working Missourians,” said Revenue Director Trish Vincent. “I am very proud of our employees, who are keeping up a fast pace and meeting that challenge.”

As of March 15, the department processed 1,390,334 individual income tax returns. Of those:

·         989,032 were filed electronically (71.1 percent)

·         195,279 were filed using fill-in, calculating forms that print with a 2D barcode (14.0 percent)

·         1,098,354 were refunds (80.0 percent)

·         Nearly 54.1 percent of error-free refunds were processed in just two days

Taxpayers are encouraged to file electronically and check the status of their return online at www.dor.mo.gov. To use the online system, just click “Where’s My Tax Return?” on the right side of the page. The department’s Interactive Voice Response system, unveiled last year, also gives taxpayers the option of using the phone by calling (866) 433-7259 toll-free or by making a toll call to (573) 526-TAXX (8299).
