Joplin Tax Assistance Center Open at New Location

        JEFFERSON CITY – The Missouri Department of Revenue announced today that the Joplin Tax Assistance Center is now open at a new location due to concerns regarding roof instability from heavy snow and ice. The office is now temporarily located at 705 Illinois, Suite 4.

        The assistance center is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and is located at the same complex as the previous location.

        In addition to the Tax Assistance Center in Joplin, customers may phone or email the department to obtain answers to questions. Tax inquiries may be directed by phone to the Jefferson City offices at (573) 751-3505 or (573) 751-7200. The department’s website is available at www.dor.mo.gov and customers may also email dormail@dor.mo.gov with questions.

        To check on the status of an income tax return, customers may call (866) 433-7259 toll-free or click “Where’s My Return?” on the department’s website at www.dor.mo.gov. A toll number, (573) 526-TAXX (8299), is also available to find the status of a return or refund.

        Taxpayers are encouraged to file taxes early and use electronic filing methods. For taxpayers, filing electronically offers immediate proof of filing and increased accuracy. Processing delays can result when processing paper returns using conventional methods. Electronic filing sends the data directly to the processing system, sidestepping any potential keying errors. It also allows the taxpayer the option of receiving a refund via direct deposit. Direct deposit is available only when taxpayers file electronically.
