Tax Return Tracking Up and Running at Revenue Department

Toll-free phone number now available; Online system ready, too

JEFFERSON CITY – Gearing up for its busiest time of the year, the Missouri Department of Revenue today announced that two no-cost methods to check the status of a tax return are already up and running.

The department’s Interactive Voice Response system, unveiled last year, gives taxpayers the option of using the telephone to obtain information on the status of their tax return. New this year is a toll-free option available by calling (866) 433-7259. Taxpayers can also access the tracking system by calling the toll number, (573) 526-TAXX (8299). The department continues to offer the Online Personal Tax Return Inquiry system, available on the internet at www.dor.mo.gov. To use the online system, just click “Where’s My Tax Return?” on the right side of the page.

Revenue Director Trish Vincent is eager for Missourians to try these quick, easy options. “I am very pleased to provide free online and free phone access for taxpayers to obtain information about the status of their tax returns and refunds,” she said. “I appreciate Gov. Matt Blunt’s continued enthusiasm to push state government to provide Missourians meaningful access to information.”

To use either service, taxpayers will input the first social security number on the tax return, the taxpayer’s filing status (i.e. single, married filing separately, married filing a combined return), and the expected refund or balance.  Users of the phone inquiry system should expect the call to last about 3 minutes.
