License Office Reform Continues With Bid Requests for Arnold, Cape Girardeau, Republic, and St. Louis Area Offices
JEFFERSON CITY – Gov. Jay Nixon’s effort to promote efficiency over political patronage continued today with the release of bid proposals for six more of Missouri’s local license offices.
The six offices are Arnold, Cape Girardeau, Republic, Olivette, West County (Ballwin), and Northside (St. Louis City). Missouri citizens go to their local license offices to conduct numerous transactions, including the issuing and renewal of driver licenses and the issuing and renewal of motor vehicle license plates.
“For too long, the management of a local license office was awarded to someone solely because of their political affiliation,” Gov. Nixon said. “Under this new process, individuals and organizations will be able to submit their plans on how to run these offices and the best proposals will be chosen based on their merits.”
Once the Request for Proposals (RFPs) for each office are advertised by the Office of Administration (OA), bidders will have five weeks to submit their plans on how to manage the offices. Criteria such as customer service, financial stability, employee qualifications and office security/accessibility are just some of the parameters that the Department of Revenue will evaluate when deciding who is awarded the right to operate an office.
