I Have a Question! How Do I...?
How do I change my name when I get married?
In order to change your name on a vehicle registration, you will need to apply for a new title in your new name. This may be completed by submitting a completed and signed application for title, the original title, acceptable documentation of your legal name change, and the appropriate title fee ($11 for motor vehicles and trailers; $10 for boats/vessels; $7.50 for outboard motors). Click on the following link to view and print the appropriate application for title:
- Motor Vehicle/Trailer - Application for Title and License (Form 108)
- Boat/Vessel/Outboard Motor - Application for Missouri Boat/Vessel or Outboard Motor Title and Registration (Form 93)
Your local license office also has the forms and information to assist you.
To change the name that appears on your Missouri driver license, take acceptable documentation of your legal name change to a Missouri driver license office after you get married, divorced, etc. You may then apply and pay for a duplicate driver license with your new name. You will be asked to retake your photo and sign the document. If your Missouri driver license is within 6 months (184 days) of expiring, you may be eligible to renew your driver license early (instead of just receiving a duplicate of the old license).
Acceptable Documents for Proof of Name Change
- Certified Marriage Certificate;
- Updated social security card bearing your new name (or updated Missouri Driver License if applying for a new title); or
- A Certified Court Order.
You may be required to present acceptable documents for Proof of Name, Date of Birth, and Place of Birth, Proof of Social Security Number, and Proof of Missouri Residential Address.
If you have questions about the acceptability of the documentation you have, please email: [email protected].
