Department of Revenue News Release
October 05, 2009Pineville License Office Contract Awarded
JEFFERSON CITY - The management contract for the Pineville License Office, which closed Wednesday due to the retirement of the former license agent, has been awarded to a new agent.
William Brower of Anderson was awarded the office today. Brower previously ran the local motor vehicle and license office from 2001 to 2005.
The proposal submitted by Brower calls for the office to move from its current location of 303 Harmon St. to 605 Main St. An exact opening date for the office has not been established, but Brower's proposal calls for the office to open no later than Oct. 26.
Alana M. Barragán-Scott, acting director of the Missouri Department of Revenue, said she was pleased that the decision on the Pineville office has been made.
"I know some McDonald County residents have been inconvenienced by the closing of the office after the retirement of the former agent," she said. "However, we will work with Mr. Brower to get the new office open as quickly as possible."
Unlike past years, a competitive bidding process was used to select the new office agent. The new process was implemented when Gov. Jay Nixon took office in January. This new system, which emphasizes customer service and financial efficiency, was permanently established in state law when a bipartisan majority of legislators approved it last spring and it was signed into law by the Governor. There were two bids for the Pineville office.
License offices provide services that are overseen by the Missouri Department of Revenue, but each office is operated by an independent contractor. Transactions that are conducted at these offices include the issuance and renewal of driver licenses, applying for titles for motor vehicles, and the issuance and renewal of registration for motor vehicles, boats and outboard motors.
