Department of Revenue News Release
March 26, 2009Revenue Dept. To Host Workshops in Eldon To Help People Renew License Plates Online
The Missouri Department of Revenue will host one-hour workshops Tuesday in Eldon to provide information about online renewal of their license plates/motor vehicle registrations. The sessions will be open to anyone who wishes to learn how to renew their plates online or through the mail, or who would like direct assistance with renewing their plates online.
The three workshops are being held in Eldon to help alleviate the inconvenience that followed the former license office agent’s decision to close the office on March 20. The deadline to bid on the management of the Eldon office is March 31, and the department is hoping to choose a new office agent in the near future.
“The department decided to sponsor these workshops to directly assist people with renewing their license plates or to demonstrate to customers how to renew their plates online or through the mail,” said Karen King Mitchell, director of the Department of Revenue. “Renewing certain license plates is all we will be able to do at these workshops, but our goal is to help minimize the inconvenience of the office’s closing.”
The state offers the MORE (Missouri Online Registration Exchange) online plate renewal system as a convenient way to renew license plates. It gives Missourians the option of not having to drive to a local license office or wait in line. At this time, the online system only processes current motor vehicle license plate renewals. It does not process other transactions, such as driver licenses, titles, applications for new license plates, renewals of personalized license plates (college, military, etc.) or license plate renewal applications that have expired.
Eldon customers will be able to choose between three, one-hour long sessions. The “MORE Online Plate Renewal System Workshops” will be offered at:
- Date: Tuesday, March 31, 2009
- Times: 12:30-1:30 p.m., 3:00-4:00 p.m., and 6:00-7:00 p.m.
- Location: Eldon Career Center (Room 105-C) – 112 South Pine Street
Note: If you are interested in renewing your license plates during the workshop, please bring your renewal notice and other required documents listed on the renewal notice. These include property tax receipts for the vehicle, proof of auto insurance and a recent safety inspection (if applicable). An acceptable form of payment, such as a credit card, debit card or check will also be necessary for people wanting to renew their license plates at the workshops. Not all transactions can be done online, but the process for renewing by mail will also be discussed. Reservations are not necessary.
