Department of Revenue Director Joel Walters elected to Multistate Tax Commission Executive Committee

JEFFERSON CITY

Missouri Department of Revenue Director Joel Walters was elected to the Executive Committee of the Multistate Tax Commission at its annual meeting, held last month in Boston. The Commission is an intergovernmental state tax agency working on behalf of states and taxpayers to facilitate the equitable and efficient administration of state tax laws that apply to multistate and multinational enterprises.

“The MTC is a critical organization in the state tax arena, dedicated to ensuring that state tax laws work effectively for our states and businesses,” said Director Walters. “I am pleased Missouri has the opportunity to not only be involved at the national level, but to also take a leadership role in this important effort.”

The Commission was created in 1967 by the Multistate Tax Compact and is charged with: facilitating the proper determination of State and local tax liability of multistate taxpayers, including the equitable apportionment of tax bases and settlement of apportionment disputes; promoting uniformity or compatibility in significant components of tax systems; facilitating taxpayer convenience and compliance in the filing of tax returns and in other phases of tax administration; and avoiding duplicative taxation.
