Fulton License Office Temporarily Closes; Target Date for Office Re-opening is July 1

The Fulton motor vehicle and driver license office has temporarily closed, and the tentative date to re-open the office at a new location is July 1.

The former location of the license office, at 204 E. Fifth St., closed Wednesday, June 17.  The new office will be at 354 Country Meadows Lane in Fulton.

“It’s customary for a local license office to close for a few days when a new agent takes over and when an office moves to a new location,” said Karen King Mitchell, director of the Department of Revenue. “In addition, there have been some problems establishing Internet service at the new location.  Since Internet service is essential in conducting transactions at the office, it’s vital that the service is up and working when the office re-opens.”

“As a temporary alternative, the department urges Fulton-area customers to utilize license offices in nearby towns, and many people also have the option of renewing their vehicle registrations (license plates) online,” Mitchell said.

Common transactions that are conducted at local license offices include renewing or applying for a driver’s license, renewing or applying for registration on motor vehicles, boats and outboard motors, and applying for titles and paying sales taxes on these units.

Customers who were notified that their personalized license plates were available at the Fulton office can pick up their plates at the Jefferson City License Office.

To renew most motor vehicle license plates, many citizens of Callaway County can utilize the Department of Revenue’s Missouri Online Registration Exchange (MORE) to process license plate renewals online.  The web address is http://plates.mo.gov/.  Customers can’t use the site to obtain driver licenses or renew personalized license plates, but it is an option for typical license plate renewals. The same documents needed to renew license plates at a license office also will be needed to renew license plates online. The department’s call centers are available to answer questions about MORE and other related issues.  The centers are open weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  For motor vehicle/license plate issues, the phone number to call is (573) 526-3669, and for answers to driver license questions, the phone number is (573) 751-1887.
