Please note that not all Missouri residents are eligible for Internet registration renewals. If you do not have a PIN, you are not eligible at this time.

If you did not receive your registration renewal notice, you may still be able to renew online using the alternate log in process by entering information from your registration. If that is not successful, you may renew at any Missouri license office, by mail, or by phone at 573-751-1957 Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Your local license office may also provide phone-in renewal services. Visit https://dor.mo.gov/license-office-locator/ for more information. Please click here for information about the documents and fees required to renew your registration.

If you would like to verify your eligibility to renew online and obtain your PIN, you may contact the Department at MVBCallbacks@dor.mo.gov. The online system accepts the following payment methods for your vehicle registration renewal:

  1. E-Check
  2. Debit card
  3. Credit card (MasterCard, Visa, American Express, and Discover/NOVUS)

The vendor that provides the service for processing E-Check and debit/credit card transactions charges a standard fee in addition to and separate from the renewal fee charged by the Missouri Department of Revenue. Although the fee for your license plate renewal and the vendor's convenience fee are separate, you will only see one fee charged to your E-Check or debit/credit card account.

E-Check - Most Economical Option!

For a convenience fee of .50 cents you can renew your license plates from the comfort of your own home - avoiding the drive to a license office and waiting in line.  Using an E-Check is your most economical online payment option.

Example:
Your registration fee: $21.25
Standard E-Check charge: .50 cents
Total amount charged: $21.75

Example:
Your registration fee: $150.00

Example:
Your registration fee: $21.25
2.0% + $0.25 convenience fee: $0.68
Total amount charged: $21.93

Example:
Your registration fee: $150.00
2.0% = $0.25 convenience fee: $3.25
Total amount charged: $153.25

In order for you to be eligible to renew your license plates online, your county collector must provide paid personal property tax records for your county to the Missouri Department of Revenue. The vehicle, trailer, or ATV information provided to us by your county must match our records exactly to renew online. At this time, your county collector may not participate in the online personal property tax reporting system. Click for a list of participating counties.

Not all vehicle registrations currently qualify for this program. For instance, if your registration renewal is for specialized license plates, you will not be able to use the online system to renew your license plates, as there are additional documents that must be verified (i.e., emblem use authorization statements cannot be verified by our online system at this time.)

Note: When a new county comes online with the Missouri Department of Revenue, it will be at least two months before the county's residents receive a PIN on their renewal notices, making them eligible for the online renewal process.

No. At this time, only motor vehicle, ATV, and trailer registrations can be renewed online. In the future, the department plans to expand online registration to include renewals of boat/vessel registrations and disabled placards.

Yes, you can renew one and three year trailer plates or ATV decals online. A PIN must be recorded on your renewal notice to renew online.

Yes, a PIN must be recorded on your renewal notice and upon successful completion of your application and payment online, you will receive by mail, your registration receipt and a "P" tab that must be placed in the center of your existing trailer license plate. A new trailer license plate will not be issued.

No. You will not be able to renew online because the department does not have online verification of payment of your Federal Heavy Vehicle Use Tax.

The online system automatically checks your VIN against the insurance database. If your insurance cannot be verified by our system, you will be unable to renew online and must renew by mail or at a Missouri license office. Not all insurance companies currently provide the Missouri Department of Revenue with their paid insurance records. Also, check your insurance card to make sure the VIN on the card matches the VIN on your renewal notice, as that may be the reason your insurance could not be located in the system.

This could be due to one of the following reasons:

  • Your county's personal property tax records have not been provided to the department; or
  • You paid your personal property taxes after your county collector had already sent the records to the department; or
  • You did not enter the information from your personal property tax receipt exactly as shown, including any spaces, commas, periods or dashes.

You can renew your license plates online up to the last day before your vehicle registration expires. At the end of your online transaction, you can print a temporary vehicle registration receipt that is valid for up to 30 days. This receipt must be carried in your vehicle so that you can present it to law enforcement upon request. You may discard your temporary receipt once you have received your registration renewal and plates/tabs in the mail.

If you do not receive your plates/tabs within 14 business days of your renewal, you may obtain replacements at any local license office (subject to the $6.00 processing fee) or by mail by sending in the Missouri Form 1576, Application for Replacement Plate(s) and Tab(s) to the central office for processing.

The online system is unable to verify personal property taxes for leased vehicles, so these renewals cannot be processed online.

  • Your vehicle is leased;
  • You have a Disabled Plate and your renewal notice requires a physician’s statement;
  • Your county has not electronically submitted personal property tax records to the department;
  • The vehicle is registered to a non-profit organization and is not assessed personal property tax by the county;
  • You have a commercial motor vehicle insurance policy or are self-insured;
  • You live in an area that requires an emissions inspection and your vehicle is a truck with a GVWR of 8,500 LBS or more; or
  • Your personal property tax verification is in the form of a personal property tax waiver.
