Missouri Driver Licenses and Permits Won't Be Processed February 19 & 21JEFFERSON CITY - Missouri's local license offices will not be able to process applications for new and renewal driver licenses and driver permits February 19 and 21. But license offices open on those days will be able to complete all motor vehicle transactions such as renewing license plates, obtaining motor vehicle titles, and paying sales taxes on vehicle purchases.
The American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators has advised all states that its driver license information system will be unavailable February 19 and 21, due to an upgrade of the system. This system is used to ensure that persons applying for new and renewed commercial and noncommercial driver licenses do not have any out-of-state driving violations, suspensions, or revocations. Because the system will be unavailable, new driver licenses and renewed driver license applications cannot be processed on either date.
"Although the license offices won't be able to process driver licenses on these dates, the offices that will be open will still be able to help customers with other transactions," said Alana M. Barragán-Scott, director of the Missouri Department of Revenue. "I urge persons who have driver licenses expiring on one of those two days to get their licenses renewed before February 19. Driver licenses are not valid for driving after the expiration date."
A majority of Missouri's license offices will already be closed on February 19 and 21 for reasons unrelated to the computer upgrade. February 19 falls on a Saturday, when many offices are normally closed, and February 21 is Presidents Day. Of Missouri's 183 local license offices, about one third of them will be open on February 19, and about one third will be open on February 21.
You can check the holiday status, operating hours, contact information, and locations of all local license offices online at http://dor.mo.gov/offloc/.
"For the offices that will be closed on February 19 and 21, the computer upgrade will not be an issue," Barragán-Scott said. "Customers of the other offices, however, need to know that driver licenses and permits won't be processed those days so that the computer system can be updated to improve performance and security.
