Missouri & Out-of-State Consumers Can Save on Energy-Efficient AppliancesJEFFERSON CITY - Missourians and out-of-state consumers shopping in Missouri will be able to benefit from Missouri's fourth annual Show-Me Green Sales Tax Holiday, which runs from Thursday, April 19, through Wednesday, April 25.
"We encourage folks in Missouri and surrounding states to mark their calendars to participate in Missouri's fourth annual Show-Me Green Sales Tax Holiday," said Alana M. Barragán-Scott, director of the Missouri Department of Revenue. "This holiday gives appliance buyers an opportunity to purchase energy-efficient appliances at a very reasonable price."
People who purchase new ENERGY STAR® qualified appliances in Missouri during the holiday will save a minimum of 4.225 percent off their purchase. The reduced price represents the elimination of the state's sales tax from the purchase.
ENERGY STAR®-labeled appliances that qualify for the sales tax exemption are:
*Clothes washers
*Refrigerators
*Freezers
*Dishwashers
*Water heaters
*Furnaces
*Air conditioners
*Heat pumps
More information about the ENERGY STAR® program can be obtained at http://www.energystar.gov/.
Many local governmental entities have also opted to participate in the holiday. This means qualified purchases in those areas will be exempt not just from the state sales tax, but also city, county and special district sales taxes. Eleven counties, 48 cities and 16 special districts have opted to participate in the holiday. The participating entities can be found at http://dor.mo.gov/business/sales/taxholiday/green/.
"No matter where in Missouri people shop, they will save at least 4.225 percent, and that's a significant savings," Barragán-Scott said. "Some manufacturers and dealers will also offer their own rebates and discounts, increasing the savings even more."
