Keytesville License Agent to Retire; Office Will Be Temporarily Led by Interim Agent and Re-Bid

KEYTESVILLE - The Keytesville motor vehicle and driver license office will close at the end of the business day on Friday, Nov. 6, and re-open on Nov. 13 under the operation of an interim agent due to the retirement of the current agent.

The office, located at 306 S. Cherry St. in the Chariton County Courthouse, will close at 4:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 6.  Normal operating hours for the office are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and closed for lunch each workday from noon to 1 p.m.

The agent in charge of the office, Debbie Strodtman, has chosen to retire as the agent for the office.  Strodtman had also submitted a bid to be selected as the permanent office agent under the new bidding system implemented by Gov. Jay Nixon.  Since Strodtman was the only one to bid for the operation of the office, a second round of bidding will commence.

When the office re-opens on Nov. 13, it will be under the temporary operation of Doug Galaske, who is the agent for the Moberly License Office.  He will be in charge of the office until the Missouri Department of Revenue and Office of Administration select a new permanent agent for the Keytesville office.

Individuals or groups interested in operating the Keytesville office will have until Dec. 1 to respond to the state's Request for Proposal.  In Fiscal Year 2008, the office conducted 10,348 transactions and generated $34,661 in local agent processing fees.  A copy of the state proposal that bidders can use to develop their bids can be viewed at https://www.moolb.mo.gov/.  To review a proposal, select "Guest" on the home page, click on "Open Bids By Agency," then scroll through the list of bids until the appropriate one is located.  (The bid number for the Keytesville office is B3Z10122).  Additional information regarding the bidding process can be obtained at http://oa.mo.gov/purch/vendorinfo/DORoffices.pdf or by calling the Office of Administration at (573) 751-2387.

Common transactions that are conducted at local license offices include renewing or applying for a driver license, renewing or applying for registration on motor vehicles, boats and outboard motors, and applying for titles and paying sales taxes on these units.

"It's unfortunate when an office has to temporarily close, even for a short time," said Alana M. Barragán-Scott, director of the Department of Revenue. "I know it will inconvenience some customers for a few days, but we are working to alleviate the situation as quickly as possible. If someone in the Keytesville area has to conduct motor vehicle-related business during the time that the Keytesville office is closed, there are other area offices they can visit."
