Department of Revenue News Release
May 19, 2009Boonville, Cameron, Chaffee, Marshall, Monett & St. Clair License Offices Are Put Up for Bid
The state of Missouri put six more local motor vehicle/license offices up for bid today as part of Gov. Jay Nixon’s plan to improve customer service in Missouri government.
“The management of all 183 of Missouri’s local license offices will be put up for bid this year,” Gov. Nixon said. “While some of the offices have been run by local chambers of commerce and other civic groups, the vast majority were given away to political supporters of past governors. The six bid proposals that are going out this week are just one more indication of the reform that is taking place in Missouri government.”
The governor also noted that the Missouri General Assembly approved legislation last week that will permanently put his bidding process into state law.
“There’s no turning back from the progress we’ve made,” Gov. Nixon said.
The six offices that have been put up for bid this week are Boonville, Cameron, Chaffee, Marshall, Monett and St. Clair. Bidders will have five weeks (or until June 23) to respond to bid proposals administered by the Office of Administration (OA). Teams from the Missouri Department of Revenue will evaluate the bids.
Karen King Mitchell, director of the Department of Revenue, noted some of the criteria that the department will use when considering bids.
“Customer service, hours of operation, the accessibility and security of the office location, the past business or license office experience of the office staff, and a possible return of some revenues to the state are just some of the standards the department will evaluate,” Mitchell said.
Common transactions that take place at local license offices include renewing or applying for a driver’s license, renewing or applying for registration on motor vehicles, boats and outboard motors, and applying for titles and paying sales taxes on these units.
