Former Columbia office manager pleads guilty to failure to file and pay sales and withholding tax

JEFFERSON CITY - Barbara Kay Boland, 42, of Ashland pleaded guilty Sept. 30 in Boone County Circuit Court to seven counts of failure to file and pay sales and withholding tax. Boland failed to file a sales tax return and pay sales tax on several occasions in 2009 and 2011. She also failed to collect or pay withholding tax in 2009 and 2011. The guilty plea follows a 10-month investigation by the Criminal Tax Investigation Bureau of the Missouri Department of Revenue. The case was prosecuted by the Boone County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.

Boland was the office manager of Wilben Fireside Supply at 1305 Olympic Blvd, Suite A, in Columbia. She is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 18. The failure to file and pay sales and withholding tax is an unclassified felony, carrying a punishment of not less than two years but no more than five years in prison.
