Department of Revenue News Release
March 24, 2009Bidding Process Begins For Maysville, Troy, Harrisonville & North StL County License Offices
Gov. Jay Nixon’s effort to make Missouri’s motor vehicle/driver license offices more efficient and accountable continued today with the release of bid proposals for four more local offices.
“In the past, most license offices were given to people solely because they were political supporters of past governors,” Nixon said. “A few of them were awarded to local foundations, school districts or chambers of commerce,” Gov. Nixon said. “Under our new way of doing business, anyone currently running an office will be able to bid to operate an office in the future, but now any other person or group will also be able to bid. The contract to run the office will ultimately be awarded to the person or group that puts forth the best business plan.”
The Harrisonville, Maysville, Troy and North St. Louis County (10990 New Halls Ferry Road) license offices are the latest offices to be put up for bid by Missouri’s Office of Administration (OA). Interested bidders will have five weeks (or until April 28) to reply to the Request for Proposals (RFPs) released this week by OA.
Karen King Mitchell, director of the Missouri Department of Revenue, said that maintaining or improving customer service will be the main goal of the bidding process.
“The teams that review the bids will be evaluating criteria such as the business plan of the bidder, the accessibility and security of the office site and the experience of the office manager,” Mitchell said. “Knowing that there is competition to operate the office should be an incentive for the bidders to work hard on their proposals and produce a plan that will result in good customer service.”
Common transactions that are processed at local license offices include renewing or applying for a driver’s license, renewing or applying for registration on motor vehicles, boats and outboard motors, and applying for titles and paying sales taxes on these units.
