Department of Revenue News Release
March 16, 2009Jackson, Lebanon, Warrensburg & Wentzville License Offices Latest To Undergo Reformed Bidding Process
JEFFERSON CITY – Gov. Jay Nixon’s effort to make Missouri’s motor vehicle/driver license offices more efficient and accountable continued today with the release of bid proposals for four more local offices.
“The management of some of Missouri’s local license offices has been awarded in the past to local foundations, school districts or chambers of commerce,” Gov. Nixon said. “Most of them, however, have been given to partisan political supporters.
Under our new way of doing business, anyone will be able to bid, and the person or group that puts forth the best business plan will run the office.”
The Jackson, Lebanon, Warrensburg and Wentzville license offices are the latest offices to be put up for bid by Missouri’s Office of Administration (OA). Interested bidders will have five weeks to reply to the Request for Proposals (RFPs) released today by OA.
Karen King Mitchell, director of the Missouri Department of Revenue, said that maintaining or improving customer service will be the main goal of the bidding process.
“The teams that review the bids will be evaluating criteria such as the business plan of the bidder, the accessibility and security of the office site and the experience of the office manager,” Mitchell said. “Knowing that there is competition to operate the office should be an incentive for the bidders to work hard on their proposals and produce a plan that will result in good customer service.”
Services provided at the offices include the issuance and renewal of driver licenses, and the issuance and renewal of license plates for motor vehicles and registration tags for boats.
