Department of Revenue News Release
April 21, 2009Bridgeton, Festus, Nixa, Potosi, Savannah and Waynesville License Offices Are Up for Bid
Gov. Jay Nixon’s comprehensive bidding process to help increase accountability and efficiency in all 183 of Missouri’s local license offices continued this week with six more offices being put up for bid.
The management of the six offices will be awarded to the person or group that submits the best bid. Bidders will have five weeks (or until May 26) to submit proposals to the Office of Administration (OA) for the operation of the offices in Bridgeton, Festus, Nixa, Potosi, Savannah and Waynesville.
“Although some offices in the past have been awarded to chambers of commerce or other non-partisan groups, the vast majority were given to people strictly because of patronage politics,” Gov. Nixon said. “Under our system, all offices will be bid out, and the main goals are to obtain excellent customer service and the best return for the state.”
Karen King Mitchell, director of the Missouri Department of Revenue, said the bidding process has been going well, and urged potential bidders to be thorough when completing the Request for Proposals (RFPs).
“It’s important for bidders to give us complete information,” she said. “Bids that have detailed proposals on customer service, a bidder’s experience and the office location will be more favorably evaluated than bids that are incomplete or vague.”
Common transactions that are processed at local license offices include renewing or applying for a driver’s license, renewing or applying for registration on motor vehicles, boats and outboard motors, and applying for titles and paying sales taxes on these units.
Copies of the RFPs that bidders will use to develop their bids can be viewed at https://www.moolb.mo.gov/.
