Department of Revenue News Release
February 24, 2009RFPs Released for Belton, Clayton, Eldon, Parkville, Washington & Kingshighway (StL) License Offices
JEFFERSON CITY – The state of Missouri has put six more local license offices up for bid as part of Gov. Jay Nixon’s plan to improve customer service in Missouri government.
“The management of all 183 of Missouri’s local license offices will be up for bid this year,” Gov. Nixon said. “The six bid proposals that are going out this week are just one more sign of the reform that is taking place in Missouri government.”
The six offices for which Request for Proposals (RFPs) are being released this week are Belton, Clayton, Eldon, Parkville, Washington and the St. Louis office located at 4628 South Kingshighway Boulevard.
According to Karen King Mitchell, the director of the Department of Revenue, the bidding process marks a stark departure from the past when the operation of most of the offices was awarded to agents based on their political loyalties.
“The department will be looking for the person or group that has the best business plan for a particular office,” Mitchell said. “The goal will be for each office to be run efficiently and courteously, no matter what the political affiliation is of the office contractor.”
Once an RFP has been released, potential bidders have five weeks to respond. The Department of Revenue will judge the bids based on an applicant’s financial security, the office’s location, accessibility and security, and the applicant’s plans to provide good service when citizens are renewing their driver licenses or license plates.
