Vehicle owners with registrations (license plates) expiring in the months of March and April have been granted an automatic two-month extension and will be able to continue operating their vehicles on Missouri roadways without penalty until they can apply for renewal.

The new extended deadline to renew March 2020 registrations is May 31, 2020.

The new extended deadline to renew April 2020 registrations is June 30, 2020.

Do I have to visit a license office and obtain a paper waiver so late penalties are not charged?

No.  During the extension, the penalty will be waived when you visit a license office to process the transaction.

If my temporary tags have expired, what steps can I take to get license plates on my vehicle?

The public assistance office of the Department of Revenue is currently open to walk-in customers. I recently purchased a vehicle. Is the deadline to title, register, and pay sales tax on my vehicle extended?

Applicants for title will not be assessed a late title penalty at the time of application. This waiver will continue through April 30, 2020.

Is my vehicle safety and emission inspection still valid?

The time frame in which a vehicle safety and emission inspection is valid for the March and April license plate expirations has been extended an additional 60 days.
